I made this image in the fall of 2016 using my Nikon D810. This was my second trip to Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierra, and I knew that the morning blue hour could be magical. That meant arriving early in the morning and hiking to the half mile or so in the dark. Normally not a problem, but it was about 5F! Fortunately I had some warm clothes with me, but I was definitely not prepared for how cold it was this morning. That said, the sunrise was absolutely incredible, and I'll never forget sharing it with a group of retired film photographers, all shooting large format film. The oldest was in his 90's and still using 8x10. It was very inspirational. This image combines 5 vertical images and cropped into 6x17 panoramic format. It can easily print up to 10-12 feet wide.
